About the UC Alumni Association

  • What is the UC Alumni Association all about? What does it do?

The UC Alumni Association is an institutional advancement partner within the university community, filling a unique role in helping UC achieve the ambitious objectives set forth in the academic and strategic plan, "UC|21: Defining the New Urban Research University." Alumni and friends of the university become members to take advantage of exclusive benefits, but primarily to play a vital and fundamental role in this ambitious effort to transform UC from a great university to a premier institution. Membership formalizes and sustains an alumnus' lifelong relationship with UC.

  • How do I become a member of the UC Alumni Association?

You can become a UCAA member on an annual basis, committing to one or three years at a time, or on a lifetime basis. The easiest way to join is online, but many alumni join via mail or in person as well. For information, call 513-556-4344 or 1-877-4-UC-ALUM toll-free.

  • How do I renew my UC Alumni Association membership?

Annual members should receive a renewal notice about two months before their membership is due to expire. Sending your payment at that time ensures that the membership will not lapse. You may also renew online, or feel free to call the UCAA to inquire about your membership status. Just ask for Teresa Horton, 513-556-4344 or 1-877-4-UC-ALUM toll-free.

  • What is the difference between membership in the UC Alumni Association, the Young Alumni Association, the African American Alumni Association, my college alumni association, etc.?

The UC Alumni Association is the overarching organization for all alumni membership at UC. Groups such as Young Alumni Association (YAA), African American Alumni Association (AAAA), or the alumni association affiliated with your college are essentially subsets of the UC Alumni Association. Your UCAA membership dues provide for membership in the "all-university" alumni association as well as any "subset" alumni associations that pertain to you, which deepens the value of your membership overall.

  • What is the difference between the UC Alumni Association and the UC Foundation?

The UC Foundation has the critical role of cultivating gifts to the university from alumni, friends, corporations and other donors. In this way, the UC Foundation's role is principally philanthropic - helping provide funding to enable UC to keep doing great things, especially as funding from the State of Ohio shrinks. Some confusion may arise because UC Alumni Association membership requires nominal dues in order to fund the organization's service to the university. Many alumni see membership in the UC Alumni Association as a fundamental first step in their engagement, because it formalizes their relationship as alums, provides tangible member benefits, and enables the UCAA to serve the university in a variety of ways. Ideally, membership goes hand-in-hand with alumni's financial support for the university and their college and/or campus organization through the UC Foundation. Both forms of engagement are necessary for UC to realize its vast potential.

  • What should I do if I get a membership renewal invoice but I already paid, or if there seems to be a discrepancy in my membership status, dues payments owed, etc.?

Often payments and invoices/statements cross in the mail, or during the payment processing period. And sometimes mistakes occur in the record-keeping among 200,000+ alumni. To confirm your membership account status or inquire about any membership or payment-related issue, call (513)556-4344 (or 1-877-4-UCALUM toll-free) and ask for Teresa Horton, or drop her a quick e-mail at Teresa.Horton@uc.edu.
