‘Back in Class’ Draws CAHS Alumni and Friends During Homecoming

The UC College of Allied Health Sciences hosted a college-wide, interdisciplinary, continuing education program on Friday, Oct. 20, during Homecoming Weekend. Alumni, faculty and community healthcare professionals earned Continuing Education Units (CEUs); connected with faculty; networked with fellow alumni; and received updates on their department, the college and the university.

In its third year, the Homecoming edition of “Back in Class” garnered its largest participation yet, with more than 50 alumni and friends from all college disciplines attending the training and reception. Planned by a committee of CAHS faculty, staff and alumni across disciplines, the event was made to be both functional and enjoyable.

UC alumna Dr. Amy Banks ’06"Back in Class” attendee and planning committee member Nancy Nevin-Folino, CAHS ’83, MED, RD, CSP, LD, FADA, appreciated the experience. “Since I practice in the pediatric hospital and outpatient arenas where care is provided with a multitude of health care disciplines, this was a fantastic opportunity to be in an audience that was multi-disciplinary hearing about global health topics,” said Nevin-Folino, who received the college’s Outstanding Alumni Award during Alumni Weekend last spring.

The training was facilitated by Scott W. Powers, PhD, of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and Lyndsay G. Colvin, Psy.D., of the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. They offered compelling insight on the topics of Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness, respectively.

Following the educational program, the committee hosted a reception at the Kingsgate Marriott Bearcat Lounge, where attendees and friends enjoyed networking with staff, faculty and area professionals.
