The African American Alumni Affiliate celebrated excellence and toasted the next generation at its 2nd annual Onyx and Ruby Gala, held at Sharonville Convention Center on February 18. The committee perfectly embodied the evening’s theme of philanthropy and celebration with alumni, students and guests in the ballroom. During a sold out event, we celebrated five exceptional University of Cincinnati Alumni and 1 student for the 2nd year in a row.

The evening started with an opening reception and live music from Deuces Musik and a kick off by student leaders, Mr. and Miss Kuamka. The dynamic emcees Douglas Ealy and Mary Wineberg made the crowd feel at home with commentary that acknowledged the past and celebrated the future. During this celebratory event, the inaugural Shani Scholarships were, which seeks to support African American students who desire to study abroad. Three $500 scholarships were awarded to:

Marquez Jones – San Jose, Costa Rica
Niyah Jackson - Morocco
The annual benefit gala is the single largest fundraising event that 4A holds. This year, we raised more than $8,000 and we look forward to putting that money towards making undergraduate dreams come true. We will see you in February 2018! The official date will be released in the coming months.
