Improving your knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy in suicide prevention: Building a community that saves lives

Presenter: Jennifer Wright-Berryman, PhD

Adolescent suicide rates have steadily increased since 1999 (CDC, 2016), and new reports show from 2007-15, adolescent male suicide deaths increased 31% and female suicide deaths doubled (CDC, 2017). Reducing suicide rates continues to be a mystery; however, experts agree that it requires the implementation of a public health approach, with primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, intervention and postvention efforts.

Attendees will learn about suicide trends, the impact for the various social work populations, and evidence-based practices and resources targeted to impact the suicide crisis. Additionally, attendees will be trained in recognizing warning signs and risk factors, and how to help someone who is in suicide crisis. Attendees will also learn how to implement a community-based initiative on suicide prevention, intervention and postvention. Please join us in becoming a Community that Saves!
