Presidential Debate Watch

Hosted by the Department of Political Science, College of Arts and Sciences

Election day is getting closer, and with it come the presidential debates. UC’s Department of Political Science is hosting a debate watch party Oct. 9, and all alumni are invited to attend. The evening will kick off with a panel discussion lead by Professor Richard Harknett and featuring Dr. David Niven, Dr. Rebecca Sanders and Dr. Rina Williams. It will provide a brief overview of the state of the election nationally, and the importance of Ohio to both campaigns. They will also discuss the international and foreign policy issues, and the role of ethnicity, race, and voting blocs in the campaign. In addition, we will be conducting a mobile pre-debate online survey of the audience starting at 8:30. Come participate in an audience experiment in social media polling with analysis provided by Dr. Stephen Mockabee and Dr. Jack Mewhirter.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided, and as soon as the debate ends, a panel of experts will be ready to answer questions from the audience on how the debate will affect the race and clarify positions the candidates took, changes they made, or mistakes they might have produced. We will also take a snap online poll of the audience on their reaction to the debate. The Q&A session will be moderated by Professor Laura Jenkins, Department Head, and will feature Dr. Kim Conger, Dr. Brian Calfano and Dr. Andrew Lewis.
