Science Day

Join us at the UC Center for Field Studies in the heart of the Miami Whitewater forest for Science Day! Enjoy a family friendly day of activities to learn about the environment and sustainability, plus great food from Velvet Smoke. This year, the College of Arts and Sciences has partnered with the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, the College of Engineering and Applied Science and the Lindner College of Business to bring you a more diverse and well rounded group of activities. Check back often to learn about what we have in store. This event is open to the greater Cincinnati community and will take place rain or shine.

About the Center for Field Studies

The University of Cincinnati Center for Field Studies (UCCFS) is located in the middle of the gorgeous Miami Whitewater Forest. Established in 2008 through a partnership with the Hamilton County Park District, UCCFS is surrounded by more than 4,400 acres of lakes, streams, and hiking trails and encompasses portions of an historic Shaker farm. Research and educational facilities at the station incorporate sustainable practices, including solar panels that actually send power back to the grid. UCCFS provides hands-on learning and research experiences for both undergraduate and graduate students in five programs of the College of Arts and Sciences - Anthropology, Biological Sciences, Environmental Studies, Geography and Geology. Click here to learn more about research at UCCFS, including work on invasive species, water quality, green roofs and archaeology.

The field station is also a major resource to the community. The research at UCCFS directly benefits environmental quality in Greater Cincinnati and provides hands-on learning opportunities for Ohio teachers, including an interdisciplinary summer fieldwork experience and a certificate program. There are also summer courses each year that are open to the public. Plus, it’s a great place to take a hike and spend quality family time in the great outdoors!
