New A&S Activity Board Provides Volunteer Opportunities
April 17, 2017
Caring deeply about something often means getting directly involved. That opportunity is available for A&S grads who want to ensure the success of their college.
The College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Activity Board was established March 6 when a group of dedicated volunteers held its inaugural meeting. This board, which includes four committees, was formed to serve the College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Network in the development and planning of meaningful programming for A&S alumni across a variety of interest areas. It also provides opportunities for alumni to become involved with the alumni network in many different capacities.
The board’s four committees — Community Engagement, Professional Development, Social Activities, and Student Engagement — are managed by officers of the board and are open to all A&S alumni. Each committee has its own goals and objectives that are set by the board.
Board members serve three-year terms, are required to attend 75% of meetings per year, and are assigned to serve on one of the committees. They have voting rights and are in direct communication with the associate director of alumni relations for the college. Board members also have the opportunity to serve as officers and interact with College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Board.
“This board will become an integral part of the A&S Alumni Network,” said Juliana Sinclair Saneholtz, Associate Director of Alumni Relations for the college. “Since A&S is the largest college on campus and has a very wide variety of interest areas, it’s important that all of our diverse alumni voices are represented to ensure diverse programming.”
Currently, the board’s roster includes 18 alumni representing the sciences, humanities and social sciences and spanning five decades.
“We are still accepting applications through May 31 for the 2017-2018 board term,” she said. “Applications to be a committee member are accepted on a rolling basis, and students in their junior or senior years are also welcome to apply. We look forward to working with anyone who wants to join this important effort.”
The College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Network sends a huge thank you to the board’s charter members, especially the first elected board president, William Judd ’14 (and Bus ’16), and Professional Development Committee chair Kelly O’Brien ’14 for her work in recruiting a significant portion of the group.
