Thank You, Dr. Ono
FROM THE DESK OF JENNIFER L. HEISEY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
June 13, 2016
Alumni and Friends,
You may have already heard the important news: The University of British Columbia in Vancouver has just announced the selection of Santa J. Ono as its new President and Vice Chancellor. You can read a letter from Dr. Ono and UC Board of Trustees Chair Rob Richardson here.
On behalf of UC alumni worldwide, I heartily congratulate the University of British Columbia and Dr. Ono and thank him for his remarkable work on behalf of the University of Cincinnati. In working with him on a variety of initiatives and events, I have seen him connect with alumni, students and others in a unique and genuine manner. He has skillfully managed a compelling array of stiff challenges and intriguing opportunities. Along the way, he has shown the ability to elevate the UC brand and all of us with it. He has reflected the best characteristics of our alumni family during his time as a Bearcat, and his accomplishments mirror those of Bearcats everywhere — individuals achieving by working together for common goals and the common good.
UC is on the rise in countless ways and will continue on this exciting upward trajectory. For example:
- The Princeton Review named UC one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education for the ninth straight year.
- Our colleges and programs, from Business to Nursing and DAAP to CCM, are among the top-ranked in the country.
- UC is among 361 institutions to hold the 2015 Community Engagement Classification, acknowledging our emphasis on service in improving teaching and learning, as well as its commitment to benefiting the local and global community.
What’s more, a strategic plan for UC’s third century is in place, significant work continues on a great number of new and transformational initiatives, and plans to celebrate our Bicentennial in 2019 are quickly coming together.
We anticipate further news about the transition in the near future and will communicate opportunities for you to provide input into the search for UC’s next visionary leader. And as plans take shape to celebrate Dr. Ono’s time at the University of Cincinnati, we will share that information with you as well.
I know you join me in thanking Dr. Ono for all he has done as the latest in a line of outstanding UC presidents, and in looking forward to UC’s rise to even greater heights.
