Welcome, President Pinto!
December 17, 2016
Alumni and Friends,
On behalf of our nearly 300,000-member alumni family, I'm excited to welcome Dr. Neville Pinto back to the University of Cincinnati as our 30th president. We look forward to working closely with him to further elevate our outstanding institution and strengthen the bonds between our alumni and their alma mater. Dr. Pinto recognizes that those two goals are fundamentally intertwined.
Typically, a new president would face the uphill process of learning about his new university, its people and its possibilities — but that's not entirely so with Dr. Pinto. Much of his professional career was spent here as a faculty member, department head, dean and vice provost, and now he comes to us from the University of Louisville where he has served in several leadership roles for the past five years, including dean of the engineering school, interim provost, and since July as acting president. I've been fortunate to work with him previously, and we share an important similarity in our respective UC stories. Each of us spent years at UC — cultivating relationships, understanding the academic community, and building our expertise to better handle greater leadership responsibility in the future. We each left to enrich ourselves through different experiences elsewhere, with the happy result being a return home, eager to again help advance our university.
I have found Dr. Pinto to be engaging and sincere in his interactions, forward-thinking and collaborative in how he addresses challenges, and well respected among his peers and colleagues. He genuinely cares about students, alumni, the university and the future we're building together, and has earned a reputation as a strong and thoughtful leader who relates to diverse audiences. Further, coming from the engineering discipline, innovation is part of his core.
As we approach our Bicentennial, UC is unquestionably on the rise, leveraging our great past toward an even greater future. Dr. Pinto intuitively grasps the value that is added by a vibrant alumni family within the framework of UC's unique identity, history and emerging opportunities, and we are excited to partner with him on this journey.
