The 2018 Warren Bennis Leadership Experience: Building a Culture of Fresh Ideas

Warren G. Bennis, the University of Cincinnati’s 22nd President (1971 – 1977) led the University of Cincinnati’s transformation from a municipal institution into a major research-oriented comprehensive member of the state of Ohio’s university system. A history of the university equated the conversion to state status on July 1st, 1977, as equal in importance to its founding in 1819. After departing UC, Bennis taught for nearly three decades at the University of Southern California where he would complete his catalog of 30 books on leadership. He is widely regarded today as “The Father of Leadership.”

A decade ago Warren Bennis was speaking with a Harvard University administrator about his leadership legacy. He clarified saying, “It is my unfinished legacy.” The University of Cincinnati will host the second Warren Bennis Leadership Experience (WBLE) to continue to build on the shoulders of Warren Bennis, so that future generations of leaders can help communities conscientiously adapt for change. The 2018 WBLE will be focusing on the theme of “Building a Culture of Fresh Ideas.” With the help of two internationally renowned speakers, we will collectively begin to address questions such as:

  • What does it mean to build a culture of fresh ideas?
  • What does a culture of fresh ideas have to do with solving great societal problems?
  • How can we freshly imagine what we thought we knew before?

Creativity experts argue that creativity is the most distinctive feature of human beings and our highest level of intelligence. Our imagination permits us to look beyond ourselves, to as Carl Sagan says “carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.” The most demanding issues of today are knocking at our door. The 2018 Warren Bennis Leadership Experience is about developing a leadership culture that embraces our capacity to collaborate and produce original ideas of value for a better world. What are we truly capable of accomplishing? Join us on October 19. All we ask is that you bring your ideas.
